Miss World helped to raise more than $7 million for children with special needs


Julia Morley and Miss World helped to raise more than $7 million for children with special needs at the Variety Show of Hearts Telethon in Vancouver over the weekend.

The 44th annual televised event, presented by Variety International, the Children’s Charity finished at 6 p.m. on Sunday and the final total raised was $7,431,869.

The money raised goes towards specialized equipment, medicines, therapies and other expenses for children in British Columbia.

“This is my first experience of a fundraising telethon, and the people of British Columbia have been amazing with their donations” said Miss World Kaiane Aldorino, “$7.4 million is an impressive total” she added.

The two-day show featured stories of hope from around the province and entertainment from around the world. The programming included Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and the Cirque du Soleil.
